This article provides step-by-step instructions to upgrade your current version of Enfocus Switch and AccurioPro VDP software to a newer version.

STEP 1) OBTAIN NECESSARY FILES

In order to complete this upgrade, you will need the following files:

1. Enfocus Switch Software Installer (Enfocus ID Required)
   
   If you have not already done so, please register for an Enfocus ID. The Enfocus ID is required in order to login and obtain the most recent Switch software installers, or to open a tech support case directly with Enfocus. If you have not yet registered for an Enfocus ID, please click here to create one.
   
   Login and Download the Enfocus Switch Installer
   
   a) Once you have your Enfocus ID, please visit the Enfocus site and Sign In using your Enfocus ID.
   
   b) Once you sign in, click on Switch in the Products area and choose Installers, as shown below:
   
   
   c) You should see a set of links to download the installers for Enfocus Switch software. If you have any problems with this, please contact Meadows support and we will obtain the Switch software installer for you. AccurioPro VDP is supported for Switch 2024 Fall and newer versions only.
   
   
2. Switch Maintenance Key (HTML File)
   
   If your current Switch maintenance is expired (or if you are not sure), please be sure to have your Maintenance Key available. If you purchased your copy of Enfocus Switch directly from Meadows, our team will have provided you with your Switch Maintenance keys. The maintenance keys are HTML file(s) that are typically delivered in a compressed ZIP folder archive. When you unzip the archive, open the folder and look for a sub-folder called Switch License Keys. Inside of this folder will be one or more HTML files. These HTML files are your license keys. The file labelled Maintenance holds your Maintenance key information.
   
   
   
   
3. AccurioPro VDP Software Installer and Order Code
   
   If you will also be upgrading your copy of AccurioPro VDP software, please download the AccurioPro VDP software installer that matches your version of Adobe InDesign. You may download the AccurioPro VDP software installers by accessing the AccurioPro VDP Downloads Page.
   
   

STEP 2) VERIFY MAINTENANCE STATUS

In order to upgrade, you must deactivate your current copy of Switch. Before doing so, please verify that the maintenance for your copy of Switch is active and up to date. You can check your current product maintenance by choosing Help > Manage Licenses... from the Switch menu. Examine the Details section to determine if your Maintenance Status is Active, as shown below:



If your Maintenance Status is Expired, please install a valid Maintenance key because without it you will not be allowed to upgrade your version of Switch. Your Maintenance Status must be Active in order to proceed with an Enfocus Switch upgrade. If your current Maintenance is Expired, then follow the steps below to import your updated Maintenance key.

The Maintenance renewal key is provided in a separate HTML file. To activate your maintenance renewal, you will add it just like you are adding a new product license or other Switch component. Please follow these steps:

1. Run Enfocus Switch
2. Select Help > Manage Licenses...
3. Click the Activate New... button
4. Browse to and select the Maintenance Key HTML file
5. Complete the activation and close the window
6. Quit and Restart Enfocus Switch
7. Verify that your Switch Maintenance Status is now Active

GENERAL MAINTENANCE KEY NOTES: If you purchased your software from Meadows, the initial set of License Keys include both the Product Keys for your copy of Enfocus Switch (and any Switch optional modules), and also your Maintenance Key. The Maintenance Key is included as a part of your initial License Key (there is not a separate Maintenance Key for the initial period). Switch licenses are perpetual, and renewal of the Switch Maintenance is optional but recommended. When you renew your Switch Maintenance with Meadows, you will receive a separate Maintenance Key (a separate HTML file sent by email). You should import the Maintenance Key on your Switch installation as soon as you receive it. This will extend the maintenance to the new end date and allow you to install any upgrade that is made available during the Maintenance period. Note that when you export your License Keys for backup, this export includes both the current Switch License and also your Maintenance information.

STEP 3) VERIFY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Before upgrading, please check that your system will support both the version of Switch you intend to install/upgrade to, and the version of Adobe InDesign that you intend to use with AccurioPro VDP software.

AccurioPro VDP software will run on any system that is also compatible with Adobe InDesign. Please confirm that your system meets these requirements before proceeding with the installation.

STEP 4) UPDATE ADOBE INDESIGN

You must be running at a minimum Adobe InDesign 2024 version 19.5. Newer versions of Adobe InDesign are also supported.

InDesign Desktop: You can verify your InDesign version by selecting About InDesign... from under the InDesign menu.

InDesign Server: Launch InDesign Server from Terminal (Mac) or the Command Prompt (Windows) and examine the banner that is displayed immediately at startup to determine the version of InDesign Server.

Please update your Adobe InDesign software if necessary to meet the minimum requirement.

WINDOWS USERS: You must configure the Adobe InDesign application to Run as an administrator. The system will not function properly unless this property has been set. Please click here for additional details about setting up this property.

STEP 5) INSTALL AccurioPro VDP SOFTWARE

If you will be upgrading your AccurioPro VDP software, please follow the steps below to install and activate AccurioPro VDP for Adobe InDesign:

Desktop Version:

1. Install AccurioPro VDP Software
   Run the installer to install all AccurioPro VDP software.
   
   
2. Activate AccurioPro VDP Software
   When the install is complete, run Adobe InDesign. You will be prompted to activate the AccurioPro VDP software. Please enter the order code provided to activate the software. When activation is complete, all modules on your order should be active and ready to go.
   
   
3. Adjust AccurioPro VDP Preferences (if necessary)
   If upgrading, set your AccurioPro VDP Preferences to match the settings on your old system. In most cases the default preference are fine, but if you had set up any unique Global Search Paths, be sure to enter those with the new version of Adobe InDesign. For new installations, please uncheck the preference item Show Splash Screen at Startup so it does not interfere with your Switch flows.

Server Version:

1. Install AccurioPro VDP Server Software
   Run the installer to install all AccurioPro VDP Server software.
   
   
2. Activate AccurioPro VDP Server Software
   When the install is complete, launch InDesign Server from Terminal (Mac) or the Command Prompt (Windows). AccurioPro VDP Server will automatically be activated using the order code provided in the included mpsactivation.lic file which is located in the Meadows folder containing the plugins.
   
   

This completes the installation of AccurioPro VDP software.

STEP 6) DEACTIVATE SWITCH (AND BACKUP FILES)

Backup Existing Switch Flows (Optional)

We recommend at this point exporting all of your current Switch flows (use the Switch Flow > Export All... menu for this). Please store the flows in a folder on your desktop.

Deactivate Switch and Backup License Files

After backing up your flows, you now need to deactivate the current version of Switch and export your license files. Please deactivate the current version by doing the following:

1. Select Help > Manage Licenses
2. Click the Deactivate... button.
   Please be sure that you enable the following item before deactivating:
   
3. Backup the License Keys (when prompted)
   If you enabled the export checkbox in the previous step, you will be prompted to save your license files. Please save these to a folder on your desktop. You will use these license files later to activate the upgraded version of Enfocus Switch.
4. Quit Enfocus Switch

STEP 7) INSTALL NEW SWITCH SOFTWARE

Run the Switch software installer that you obtained in STEP 1. Follow all of the standard prompts to complete the installation.

STEP 8) ACTIVATE SWITCH SOFTWARE

After installation, start up the newly installed version of Enfocus Switch software. You will be asked to activate the software. Please select ALL of the license files that you backed up earlier in STEP 6.

STEP 9) INSTALL THE NEW AccurioPro VDP SWITCH APP

After installing Switch, please install or update your AccurioPro VDP Switch app. This can be achieved by visiting the Switch AppStore, as described below:

1. If you have not already done so, login to your Enfocus account and go to your home page.
2. Select the Switch item in the Products section on the left side of the home page.
3. If you already have the AccurioPro VDP App installed and you need to upgrade to a later version, select the My Apps item that appears underneath the Switch item described above. Locate AccurioPro VDP in the list of your installed Apps and click the Change link below it. When the Change the version... panel appears, use the popup to select the version you wish to install and close the panel. 
4. You must refresh the Switch App panel or relaunch Switch to have the selected version of the AccurioPro VDP App installed with your Switch application.

STEP 10) IMPORT BACKED UP FLOWS

If the new version of Switch does not show your original flows, please import them now from the backup created in STEP 6.

Your AccurioPro VDP and Enfocus Switch system should now be ready to go!
